The feeling when you are embarrassed in a good way
September 25, 2017
Graduate school is exciting, fulfilling and intellectually stimulating; it can also be frustrating, disappointing and doubt-triggering. During my graduate school years I was fortunate to have a group of fantastic faculty mentors I would turn to for scientific, career, and even personal advice. Fast forward a few years, the graduate students of our program surprised me yesterday with the Outstanding Graduate Mentor in Neuroscience Award! I am honored and lucky to be part of this group and to have the opportunity to pass forward all that my mentors taught me.
And, why be embarrassed once (in a good way!) when you can be embarrassed twice?! The director of our Center also presented me yesterday with the CNS 2017 Faculty Service Award.
All this, and much more, took place over dinner at the annual CNS/Neuro program retreat at Putah Creek yesterday. The one I wasn't going to attend. The same one my Chair warned me about, that the students were going to make me participate in a skit and wear a toilet bowl hat on my head... good times!
