Full-time Laboratory Assistant II Position Available-

start date June 2024

 

A full-time position available for a lab assistant 2 to help with behavioral training and testing of mice, tissue processing and immunohistochemistry, fiber photometry, optogenetics, and confocal/epifluorescence imaging. The assistant will also maintain the lab’s mouse colony and perform PCR genotyping. Starting salary is $22. Working days/hours are M-F 9 am – 5 pm. ADVANCING DIVERSITY IN NEUROSCIENCE RESEARCH

We are excited to announce a new initiative for Advancing Diversity in Neuroscience Research (ADNR). This initiative is fully funded by NINDS and provides funding for 10 diverse sophomores per year (for 5 years) to conduct faculty-mentored research (for a salary) for 2 quarters starting in winter quarter, 2020. After spring quarter, the students will be eligible to apply for the ADNR-Honors Research (ADNR-HR) Program, which provides support for 24-months. ADNR-HR will support 5 juniors and 5 seniors each year.

To qualify for either program, students must meet one of the following requirements:

1. Individuals from racial and ethnic groups that have been shown by the National Science Foundation to be underrepresented in health-related sciences on a national basis. The following racial and ethnic groups have been shown to be underrepresented in biomedical research: Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders.

2. Individuals with disabilities, who are defined as those with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, as described in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended.

3. Individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, defined as:

   • Individuals who come from a family with an annual income below established low-income thresholds. These thresholds are based on family size, published by the U.S. Bureau of the Census; adjusted annually for changes in the Consumer Price Index; and adjusted by the Secretary for use in all health professions programs. The Secretary periodically publishes these income levels at http://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty/index.shtml.

   • Individuals who come from an educational environment such as that found in certain rural or inner-city environments that has demonstrably and directly inhibited the individual from obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to develop and participate in a research career.
